Ark: Survival Evolved
Playing this game is only going to toy with your emotions. It has by far the greatest potential out of any game I have ever played. There is just so much that can be done in this game. In terms of a survival game, there are more things that you can build in this game than any other survival game on the market. You can get power, AC, and running water. In terms of the non survival aspect of this game, YOU CAN TAME AND RIDE A T-REX.
Do I need to say anything else about this game? You have the ability to tame and ride any dinosaur in the game that is big enough to ride and trust me, there are plenty big enough. Now my dinosaur knowledge may not be very good, but I know that a T-Rex is big and it’s fast (although scientists just discovered that a T-Rex can only run about 5 MPH but for now we will pretend that we do not know that). To make riding dinosaurs even more awesome, you can ride a pterodactyl. This allows you to fly around the map and get anywhere you want relatively quickly. This is what I am talking about when I say that this game has the greatest potential out of any game that I have ever played. I get to relive my Jurassic Park dreams and conquer and be conquered by dinosaurs.
Now by this time you might be thinking this sounds like the greatest game of all time and why is everybody not playing this game. Much like you, I thought the exact same thing. Compared to games like Rust, DayZ, H1Z1, and even minecraft, this game sounds far more complex and far more fun than any of those. Why would I try and shoot other people with guns when I can hunt after massive dinosaurs? Well I can list a bunch of reasons why you would want to play the other survival games over these.
1. No Server Wipes
Now this might be an exaggeration but it seems like the servers never ever wipe. This allows other players to have massive bases with dozens of tamed dinosaurs. This allows them to essentially trounce on anybody that is new to the game. The second part about this that makes the game awful is the amount of pillars that players can build. Pillars make the map look like it has tombstones placed every hundred yards for no apparent reason. This would not be a big deal except you are not even allowed to put a camp fire within one hundred yards of any pillar. Players place these pillars allowing nobody to build anywhere near them. I can’t even cook my cold, wet, and naked body a piece of Dodo meet because I am too close to a pillar, much less have enough space to build a base. Your only option is to go deeper into the Island towards the “higher level zones” where there is a much higher risk of your base getting run over by a T-Rex.
2. Optimisation fail
According to other accounts I have heard, this game released two games worth of additional content all at one time. This turned this game into a laggy, 4 FPS, survival game. There is no way to even play the game without turning most of your settings down. This would be okay with me if it still ran great. But no, you could just be sitting at your base and two dinosaurs could walk within rendering distance and your entire screen will just lock up. This also would not be a terribly big deal if those dinosaurs did not do anything. But a lot of times, the dinosaurs that walk too close and make the game lag, will end of killing you. There is no way for you to be able to defend yourself because you lagged the entire time you were being attacked. The game needs to be optimised a ton before it is ready to be played.
3. Beginning is hard
I am not normally one to complain about having to put work into a game to be able to survive well. But this game takes the cake in terms of games that make it nearly impossible to survive early on. If you do not know what you are doing there is literally no way to live through your first life, or maybe even your second life. The fact that everything has to be learned before it can be crafted makes it really hard. I have to pick whether I want to learn a spear or a campfire. If I pick the spear I can’t cook the meat and it will rot, if I pick the campfire I can’t kill anything so I starve to death. Sure I can walk around and pick berries but if I go that route I have to pick berries for hours just to sustain myself while picking berries. It is essentially a never ending survival circle until I get stomped on by a dinosaur and have to start all over again. It is possible to get past this but with all of the other problems this game has, it is not easy.
Overall, I am pumped to see what the future of this game looks like. If they figure out these big issues and get it running well, this will be my new favorite game. However, in its current state, this game is nothing more than a low FPS survival game that is super frustrating to play. I wish more than anything that it ran well but it simply does not.

I'm the one who plays all the weird indie titles but is horrible with remembering names. Commonly found asking "Hey, did you guys play that one game that came out like a while ago with that weird character in it?".
