Why can’t we be (cross platform) friends?
This week I got to picture Sony, Microsoft, and PC Gamers holding hands and running off into the sunset. Now this may not be the way that it will turn out but I am hopeful. This week Rocket League has opened up the doors to friendly communication between PC gamers and Xbox One gamers. Being someone who has been playing Rocket League for a little while now, I am fully supportive of this (even though PC gamers are far more superior).
Prior to this, buying an Xbox, PC, or PS has solely been based on what my friends have. This has placed huge limitations on what I have decided to own. I have never been a huge PlayStation fan only because I knew nobody that was on the PlayStation network. The Halo fans were way too cool to even touch one of those ugly PlayStation controllers. But as I have grown my community, there are games I have been unable to play because I do not own a PlayStation. However, if cross platform is going to continue to grow, this could change everything. I understand that Rocket League is not the first game to be able to do this but I think Rocket League is taking leaps and bounds on what other games have done. It currently is just a pain that players are unable to play any game with each other over any platform. We have the technology so taking that leap should not be hard.
However, the tech giants do not want to take this leap. It forces people to choose a side and stand by it. That is why I dropped my allegations at the beginning of this article. I do not want anyone to associate me with the wrong side, I do not want people to think I have joined the fire nation on their quest for world domination. However, I would love if the fire and water were able to live in harmony.
As this news came out this week a lot of people have written about it. To read what PlayStation said about this you can just go here. I am excited to see what is to happen. I dream one day of being able to play with people form every network in one game at the same time. This is probably a long time down the road but I am hopeful. For now I will continue to talk smack to every PSN player I come across in Rocket League since they cannot read what I have to say and look forward to doing the same to Xbox One players.

I'm the one who plays all the weird indie titles but is horrible with remembering names. Commonly found asking "Hey, did you guys play that one game that came out like a while ago with that weird character in it?".
