SUPER TRUCK REVIEW!

You know I was trying to think of a witty and funny description of this game but all I can say it’s kind of just a simulation of Liam Neeson chasing the guy who pissed off FedEx, on drugs as he leaps from truck to truck.

Now this game is actually free, which is very thankful because I would honestly pay nothing more than $2 for it, now I know that this is harsh but in my opinion a lot of people could probably say the same, SUPER TRUCK is a new early access title by LandFall Games and tinyBuild.

It was released recently and for some reason looks remarkably similar to SUPER HOT, you know the same color scheme and the whole slo-mo while you’re not moving deal, so unusual that.

Initially the gameplay was cool and fun and I actually felt like I had accomplished something when I reached the end of the level, its maps were simple and life was simple, for a while.

You leaped from truck to truck trying not to fall off them or touch the ground as the numerous driverscrashed into each other and exploded as they raced to reach the end goal, you win if you manage to gracefully dodge around the over tipping trucks and map hazards.

Then things got complicated, especially on this one level where all of a sudden you’re plunged into midair wondering whether or not your dad is going to come back from the service station any time soon or if you’re going to land on that track down there or die, and most likely you’ll fall into a gap between two trucks and hold your head in shame, wishing things had gone better, this will happen a lot you see.

I feel like the actual success rate of you landing on a truck in midair is all decided by chance and 14% skill, considering when you plunge off that cliff most of the time you’re located in such a way that you had no time to look below you before you leap off the truck you’re already on, so most of the time you just fall onto the ground, looking at what you could of done instead.

Then things get even more intense, if huge drops that would make Skrillex jealous wasn’t enough then massive hammers that swing in a pendulum like motion exploding around you is sure to rustle your jimmies then.

I’m usually the kind of guy who likes a little bit of a challenge, but only with stuff that I can actually practice and get better at instead of relying on chance or luck, as usual though looks are not everything and I have to say initially the soundtrack (I can’t really call it that) was really new and unique and matched the gameplay but, that’s it.

There is quite literally one song for the whole game, or in the case that there are actually 3 (I was not paying attention) then they are all so similar that I did not notice. Last time I checked too, there is no level selector either or a difficulty option, oh and did I mention that my rig (That can run GTA 5 & Just Cause 3) had the occasional frame drop, that’s the bit that gets me, the barely shaded set of red trucks driving into each other are too much for my pc to handle…

Now I’m sure this game has some really cool and interesting maps to explore but, the single song on repeat and the unpredictable and luck based gameplay has put me off, I ended up skipping maps towards the end of my session out of boredom just to see what the next map was like.

I can see this has some potential though; it’s only in its early stages and it’s got some super unique gameplay mechanics and the explosions look pretty. But, that’s all it currently has going for it, so you know, throw in some more features and make it more enjoyable and sure I’d be happy to buy it from Steam on sale.

So if you’re looking for a casual and enjoyable game that keeps you entertained for free, find something else but if you enjoy hardships, and a good intense challenge and have the patience of Master Shifu or Master Oogway then go ahead and download this game, but I just had something on my mind and I found myself turning towards my phone a little too much.

5/10
