Finding The Seitengrat – Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age’s Strongest Weapon
It’s not very common for a game developer to include a weapon so unbelievably good that the entire game becomes as hard as eating pizza in bed.
Well, that’s basically what Square Enix did when they released Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System in Japan years ago and they’ve kept that weapon available in the recently released remaster: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
The Seitengrat is obtainable very early on but I do have to warn you that due to how good this weapon is, it might ruin your experience of the game, so I wouldn’t recommend you using it if it’s your first time playing through Final Fantasy XII.
That said, if you do decide to use it, you will find yourself being just a slight bit beyond overpowered. Continue reading at your own risk.
First off, let’s take a look at the weapon’s stats.
Attack | 224 |
ADD. EFF. | EVA +75 |
Element | None |
The most overpowered of bows
The Seitengrat is an invisible bow and is one of two new ultimate weapons added to this latest version of Final Fantasy XII. If you aren’t familiar with the typical attack power of weapons in Final Fantasy XII, let me assure you that they do not go far beyond 100.
To give you an idea of how ridiculous an attack power of 224 is, the Dhanusha, the second strongest bow has an attack power of 109. Even the other ultimate weapon recently added, a one-handed sword by the name of Great Trango, only has an attack power of 153.
Don’t forget that this is a bow, which means that depending on what type of arrows you use, you can make it inflict status ailments as well as further increase the attack power, albeit very slightly.
One hit kill
So, just how destructive is it? Well, just as an example, I had Vaan, a Knight/Archer at around level 50 as my only active party member. He alone was easily able to deal upwards of 10,000 damage per shot, sometimes going beyond 20,000.
Granted, the jobs do effect how strong a character’s physical attacks can be but even with a mage character of similar level with very little physical strength, I was able to deal around 6000 damage per shot. Honestly, the only enemies you’d need to be wary of are bosses with high HP, paling and status ailments.
What makes it even more incredible is the range. I’ve tried this bow on several enemy types in multiple locations throughout the game and so far I’ve been able to attack every enemy before the enemy is even aware of my character’s presence and it often ends with a one hit kill.
Even if the enemy sustains the initial shot due to having a high amount of HP, depending on how fast the enemy is, I was able to fire off 2 to 4 shots before the enemy even got close enough to retaliate. Even if the enemy survives long enough to attack, the Seitengrat grants +75 evasion so the attack would very likely be blocked anyway. This really is quite a ridiculous weapon and it’s invisible, so your character looks a bit ridiculous wielding it as well.
Finding an invisible bow
So, how do you obtain it? Well, normally, you would have a minuscule chance of ever obtaining this bow. The invisible bow can only be found in an invisible chest on the top deck of the skyferry travelling from Rabanastre to Nalbina.
The problem is that the chest itself only has a 1/100 chance of spawning and even if the chest does spawn, Vaan must have a diamond armlet equipped, or else the chest will not contain the Seitengrat. You will instead receive a knot or rust or 10 gil.
Even if you have Vaan equipped with a diamond armlet and you’ve been lucky enough to have the chest spawn, the chances of you obtaining the bow from the chest is 1/10,000. In this instance, the odds truly are stacked against you. However, as you can see, I’ve had no trouble getting 6 of them.
The method to rule them all
If you’ve been looking around on the internet for an easy way of obtaining this bow, allow me to offer a bit of advice. Do not waste any of your time and energy on the 20 second method or the 32 steps method or the 11 screen change method, etc.
They might work for some but not for others and even if they do work, it takes multiple tries. Very inefficient, in my opinion.
Instead of doing all that, I invite you to use a method discovered by a YouTuber by the name of LetsGetPitted. I’ll leave a link for you, here:

There’s also a small update if that doesn’t work, here:

You should be able to receive your first Seitengrat within just a few minutes as I did. While the bow does make the story a bit too easy to get through it can be a welcomed addition to your weapon roster for post-game content.
I admit that I have underestimated certain enemies and gotten myself into a few dangerous situations, nearly all of which I was able to get out of by using the Seitengrat. I’m past the 100 hour mark now and I’m still thoroughly enjoying the game. I also plan on obtaining the other invisible pieces of gear available in Final Fantasy XII. The Zodiac Age.
Good luck and enjoy being overpowered!
