Mark Mcmorris: Infinite Air Review

It’s better than Steep!

Infinite Air is a newly released arcade styled snowboarding game developed by HB Studios and published by Maximum Games. It compares really closely to arcade sports games such as Skate and SSX but with a touch more realism then the both.

The game will boot you up into the massive mountain range that is free for you to just have fun in. It works as a empty map for the races and other events to take place on. You activate them in the pause menu and they are quite interesting. There are a nice amount of features for what you’d expect from an extreme sports game. However, the big question is do you go for a relatively unheard of developer, or take the plunge into Ubisoft’s Steep instead?

Well for someone who has played both games and also previously wrote that Steep was one of the highest upcoming games of this year, buy this instead. Steep keeps to it’s Ubisoft mediocre quality and unimpressive gameplay. I will admit that they do sometimes release something very special such as Grow Home or Assassins Creed Blackflag, but Steep is not one of those.

Infinite Air is something that has features, gameplay, and customization that clearly have been given a massive amount of attention and effort. The character customization is very nicely done with all the clothing and boards being very nicely modeled as well as very well thought out challenges including daily challenges and. A mountain editor! I was very happy to see this feature. It works very nicely and I have probably spent more time editing the mountainsides to make complex awesome courses than actual gameplay.

The only things that really bug me with this game are the moves. There are challenges in each event that will require to do a certain move and there will be times that you will do the same button combination 3-6 times in a row and you will end up doing a different move each time. I feel the moves might just need some better recognition to the analog sticks and it’d be easily  fixed. Other than that I don’t particularly have a problem with this game at all. Personally, I don’t  like the soundtrack of the game and I believe that it could of been a lot more diverse in the style of SSX, but music is a minuscule issue to me anyway.

I would recommend this to anyone thinking of getting Steep, it is way better than what I have seen from Ubisoft and has restored my faith in extreme sports games.
