Does Infinite Warfare Deserve The Hate
Before I start, I highly recommend anyone who has an Xbox One do this: if you change your Xbox location to Japan the Infinite Warfare Beta is free, no pre-order required. You’re welcome. Play it before you come up with your opinion.
As we all know, the Infinite Warfare beta has launched for people who have pre-ordered the game (except my trick). It’s been relatively quiet, which is a surprise as this new installment of Call Of Duty has been the one to receive the most hate before it’s release. To be fair though, a lot of the Call Of Duty games get hate before release depending on the two main critiques of the game: “It’s the same every year!” or “too sci-fi!” The idea of this “boots on the ground” concept is something people want. But does that make Infinite Warfare bad just because it doesn’t have what you want?
When I first saw Infinite Warfare, I didn’t have an opinion because I am a strictly “gameplay-before-I-make-my-opinion” kind of guy. We saw our first bit of decent gameplay at E3. I was impressed. To elaborate why, I must first say that I HATE FPS campaigns I find them dull and boring. I do not find anything good about going through a Michael Bay set of levels filled with explosions and soldiers yelling, killing everything in the level, get to the end, then go onto the next one.
The last campaign I played all the way through was Modern Warfare 2 and I didn’t get what was so good about it. No Russian was a big step for a game to make and I still think it was a good step for gaming to do something like that. However, the rest of it is so dull. Flying spaceships and fighting in zero gravity and all that? That’s my jam. If I get the game, I will play through the whole thing.
Now the gameplay isn’t too different from Black Ops 3. It feels a bit more heavy (makes sense when your in a combat rig lugging around a bunch of future tech). It actually feels right and smooth. If anything, it’s more “boots on the ground” than Black Ops 3 as the maps are way less vertical so the exo movement isn’t needed as much as in Black Ops 3. Do I like this more then Black Ops 3? Hell no!
Treyarch, in my opinion, are the crown holders of the Call Of Duty franchise. They do Zombies and Multiplayer right but Infinite Warfare isn’t bad. I still think Activision putting Microtransations into Infinite Warfare is the worst idea ever. It didn’t work with Advanced Warfare and it will not work here.
Infinite Warfare isn’t as terrible as people are making it out to be. So many people slated the game based off one trailer yet a lot of them probably pre-ordered it. Yes it may be because the Modern Warfare remaster, but Infinite Warfare will be there and people will play it. Hopefully they won’t be so blind by the “boots on the ground” concept. And giving them the sales, especially the MW remaster edition isn’t going to make them change. If no one bought the pre-orders for IW, then I can guarantee that they would rework their plan and maybe even release Modern Warfare separately.
